Captain America Costume: Be the first Avenger

By now, comic book fan geeks are in heavy anticipation of the upcoming Captain America movie. Marvel Studios certainly has done a fantastic job invigorating the fan base by including easter eggs in the Incredible Hulk and Iron Man movies.

In Iron Man 2 (2010), Tony Stark was clearly seen working on Captain America’s shield in his laboratory / play room. In fact, the famous single-star emblazoned shield played a key role in Tony Stark’s feverish quest to improve the arc reactor so that he may save his own life.

In The Incredible Hulk (2008), a similar super soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America was injected into Emil Blonsky. With added strength, speed, stamina, and agility, Blonsky’s combat prowess previewed what a highly-trained enhanced soldier could do against a force of nature like the Hulk. Blonsky was able to out run the conventional army during. But, more importantly, he stood his ground in hand-to-hand combat with a raging Hulk.

From what I can gather via online resources, forums, and articles, Captain America: The First Avenger movie will be released in July 2011.  That could be around the time when San Diego’s Comic Con will be held.  If they do, this will be one fun year because Thor would have already been out a few months earlier in May 2011.

The villain in the Captain America movie is The Red Skull, his arch nemesis in the comic books as well.  That’s a great move.  In the comic books, both Captain America and The Red Skull first tangled with each other during WWII and continued to modern day.  The movie, at least according to IMDB, will portray just that.

On June 2, 2010, Ain’t It Cool News published art works of what could be (confirmed) Captain America’s movie costume to the delight of fans.  If this is how it’s suppose to be, then my first impression is ... whew!  They’re staying true to the comic book Captain America shield because, face it, that makes Captain America to most fans.

I like the take on the helmet as his headpiece.  That’s what a soldier should have.  Leather instead of cloth tights.  Sure ... why not.  After the X-Men’s first movie and Blade, leather works for me.  I’m just glad that Spider-Man was not wearing a leather costume.  Utility belt?  Again, soldiers have that.  

All in all, I like this costume and I think it would work for the movie, if this is how he’ll be portrayed.
