On February 27, 2009, we will see Chun Li of the Street Fighter saga come alive in the big screen as played by the hot and gorgeous Kristin Kreuk of Smallville, Lana Lang fame.
Fanboys are split upon hearing the news of Kristin playing Chun Li. Many of them complained that Chun Li ought to be played by an Asian girl.
But lo
and behold, Kristin's mom happens to be Chinese. So there. She's part
Asian. She also has a purple belt in karate and competed in gymnastics
during high school. So action and martial arts movies should be up
along her alley. Plus she's hot and should look great in a Chun Li costume.

The video game industry, though not hurting for money, is still waiting on a good movie adaptation. The best it can do at the moment is the Resident Evil series. But that series is universally rejected by fans of the Resident Evil video games because the movie's lead character, Alice, is not a game character.
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li benefits from both Chun Li and Kristin Kreuk already having established followings. Chun Li is well regarded as the first lady of video games, predating Lara Croft and Tomb Raider. She was even played in 1994 by Ming-Na Wen in the movie Street Fighter starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Now that was a really bad movie. And I hope the makers of The Legend of Chun Li took notes on what to avoid.

More Kristin Kreuk
In the meantime, Kristin Kreuk had a successful stint on Smallville as Lana Lang. She's moved on, but not until after she captured the heart of fan boys who are eager to see her in more projects. Among other recognitions, Kristin Kreuk ranked #10 on Wizard magazine's "Sexiest Women of TV" list (March 2008). She also made Maxim and FHM lists in the past. But Wizard covers the comic book industry...fan boy stuff.
